Hornet Award Jack Linn

The January HORNET AWARD was presented to Jack Linn.

Excerpt from the nomination:

Mr. Linn has spent many years teaching in the Kearsley District at both the high school and middle school. Jack has always been one to donate his time after school trying to connect with and help our students to grow into great adults as is evident by his coaching career that has seen him coach both track and football for over 20 years.

Over the past few years Jack has also taken the lead on creating a new Bike Tech course at the high school, giving students an experience with hands-on learning and trades. As part of this course, Jack has organized a Christmas bike giveaway that provides newly refurbished bicycles for Kearsley students of all ages.

Last week I was able to witness Jack at his finest as he had organized and ran this year's Christmas bike giveaway with great results after a long day teaching. While this event was wonderful to witness, it was what occurred later that evening that was truly special. As I was in the building lage on December 14th for a basketball game I was approached by a young boy that attends Fiedler Elementary stating he was there for the bike giveaway. He was trying to get this little sister a new bike as she stood by his side quietly crying as she was scared to ask for a bike herself. Unfortunately, the young man had arrived about an hour after the event had ended and no one was onsite to help him. I called Mr. Linn asked if we could do anything to help the student out and he stated he was on his way to help. When Jack arrived back at the school he spent his time engaging both the boy and his little sister, a Weston student, in fun conversation and assisting each in the process of finding, fitting and adjusting new bikes. Mr. Linn went above and beyond this year in his efforts to make Christmas as special for our Kearsley students as possible.

Thank you to the Mark Owen Agency - Meemic Agent of Davison for their continued support of this award.
