I hope you are enjoying a restful summer! I wanted to take a moment to share an update on our ongoing commitment to school safety, as it remains our highest priority. We are committed to continuously improving our facilities, staff training, procedures, and technology to ensure we are doing everything possible to provide safe and secure learning environments for all.
As we approach the upcoming school year, I wanted to provide an update on several recent safety improvements and initiatives implemented across the district. These include:
Addition of a School Resource Officer and expanded security staffing
Ongoing staff training focused on relationship-building, prevention, and restorative practices
Secure building entrances and a consistent district-wide visitor management process
District-wide radio system and enhanced emergency communication systems
Comprehensive emergency response, reunification plans and drills
Implementation of an evidence-based threat assessment and suicide risk assessment process and training for staff
Regular emergency intruder response training for all staff, including all-staff ALICE simulation training completed in Fall 2024
Installation of additional and improved building and bus security cameras
Rekeying of all district buildings and additional automated access control points
De-escalation training for administrative and office staff
Renumbering and color-coding of classrooms and interior/exterior signage to assist emergency responders
Consistent district-wide volunteer screening and approval procedures
While no single initiative can address every possible safety concern, these improvements reflect our ongoing commitment to preparedness, prevention, and communication.
