Kearsley Community,
Moments arise in every school year that test who we are. While we cannot always control the actions of others, we can control how we respond. At Kearsley, we strive to remain grounded in our values and beliefs.
We believe in belonging.
We believe in community.
We believe in respect.
Over the past few weeks, I have been reminded that Kearsley is far more than a school district, we are a family. I have watched students support one another, staff lead through challenging times, and our community come together.
Two recent examples from our students help reinforce what it truly means to be a Hornet:
KHS senior London Struck-Curtis was recently chosen as a finalist to deliver a speech to student council leaders from across the state. Her message was powerful and focused on the importance of belonging and how she has truly found a home and a sense of community at KHS.
Fellow KHS senior Trevor Griffith was selected as one of just seven Class A male recipients statewide of the prestigious MHSAA Scholar-Athlete Award. In his winning essay, he wrote:
“This year, my senior year, we decided we didn’t want to be the storm, we wanted to be the spark. We leaned into competitiveness with respect. We stopped responding to negativity with negativity. We started showing up for each other, celebrating the right things, and reminding the younger players that being an athlete is about more than winning — it’s about how you win, how you lose, and how you treat the people standing across from you.”
London’s message and Trevor’s words reflect the very best of Kearsley and the standard we strive to uphold. Thank you for continuing to reinforce these values and for supporting your children and our students each and every day.
Sincerely,
Paul Gaudard
