Welcome Dr. David Ersig

Kearsley Families,

We are pleased to introduce Dr. David Ersig as the new principal of Kearsley High School effective July 1, 2025.  Dr. Ersig replaces Mr. Brian Wiskur, who will be retiring at the conclusion of the school year.  With his strong background in educational leadership, instructional development, and student advocacy, Dr. Ersig brings with him nearly three decades of experience dedicated to creating environments where both students and educators thrive.  Despite several qualified candidates, Dr. Ersig was the unanimous choice of our selection committee.

Dr. Ersig joins our Kearsley team from Utica Community Schools, where he most recently served as Associate Principal at Stevenson High School. His leadership was instrumental in advancing curriculum redesign, integrating data-driven initiatives, and enhancing school culture through increasing student voice.  Prior to his move to administration in 2018, Dr. Ersig successfully taught high school mathematics for over 20 years within the Utica system where he served as a mentor teacher and leader.  Dr. Ersig has trained educators, led professional development, and collaborated closely with community partners to support student mental health and academic achievement.

Throughout his career, Dr. Ersig has earned numerous recognitions, including selection as a Gerstacker Leadership Fellow and being named a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction and a National Distinguished Teacher for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program in 2016. His academic journey, culminating in recently completing his Doctorate of Education from the University of Michigan–Flint, reflects his commitment to lifelong learning.

Dr. Ersig is excited to partner with Kearsley families, staff, and students to continue building a culture that prioritizes community, collaboration and increased opportunities for all.

Please join me in giving a warm welcome to Dr. Ersig. We are thrilled to have him join our Kearsley Community and look forward to the passion, insight, and leadership he will bring to KHS.

Sincerely,

Paul Gaudard
Superintendent
