Message from Mr. Wiskur

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Each year the State of Michigan requires all JUNIORS to take the Michigan Merit Exam (MME).  The MME is a three-day test that consists of the SAT, ACT WorkKeys, and the M-STEP.  The MME is also a KHS graduation requirement.  In addition, all FRESHMEN and SOPHOMORES are required to take the PSAT.

Below are a few reasons your child will want to do his/her best on these tests:

  • The PSAT is a free opportunity to prepare for the SAT.
  • The SAT (college entrance exam) is the first test of the MME and is offered free of charge to all juniors in the State of Michigan.
  • The SAT is one major piece of criterion that colleges consider for admissions and scholarship opportunities.
  • Since the SAT given at KHS is a college reportable examination, the SAT results will be sent to colleges of your child’s choosing.
  • Students may earn second semester senior exam exemptions by performing well on the MME.
  • To reduce the amount of time during the pre-administration and testing sessions, students now have the opportunity to opt-in to Student Search Service and complete the entire optional online questionnaire at http://studentsearch.collegeboard.org.

FRESHMEN and SOPHOMORES will be taking the PSAT on Wednesday, April 12.

JUNIORS will take the SAT on April 12, the ACT WorkKeys on April 13, the M-STEP in the Media Center on either April 19, 20 or 21.

SENIORS will report to the auditorium on Wednesday, April 12.

Students need to come to school ready to test each morning with several no. 2 pencils and a calculator.  Students cannot have any electronic devices, including cell phones, smart watches, ear buds, etc., as any disturbances (alarms, use of internet, etc.) during the testing day will nullify your child’s results as defined by the College Board.  Students are not allowed to use cell phones or smart watches during any part of the testing day (including breaks).  There are very strict guidelines on testing procedures and conditions that we will brief your child on prior to the test.  I will be meeting with all juniors on the morning of the first testing date to remind them of these strict guidelines.

Finally, we hope your child comes to school well rested and well fed, as the testing will be extensive and exhaustive.  Please be aware that because of the stringent testing conditions of each test, any student not reporting to school on time cannot take the test. Depending on the test, absent students will be rescheduled to take the test on either April 25 or 27.  We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause, but the security of the testing environment is mandatory during all testing sessions.

Thank you in advance for your help.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me.

Sincerely,

Brian E. Wiskur
Principal
