Grants

We are proud to share two recent state grant awards that will support both innovative classroom learning and improvements to our transportation fleet. These investments reflect our district’s commitment to providing students with modern learning opportunities while maintaining safe and efficient school operations.

Expanding STEM Opportunities

Kearsley recently received a MiSTEM Playbook Mini-Grant to expand STEM learning opportunities across the district. The MiSTEM Network initiative supports place-, project-, and problem-based learning, helping students engage with real-world challenges through hands-on experiences.

Through this grant, Kearsley educators will be able to provide students with new opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while building critical thinking and collaboration skills. This funding will be especially beneficial as our elementary STEM specials class launches in the fall of 2026.

Clean Bus Energy Grant Supports Transportation Upgrades

In addition to the STEM grant, Kearsley was also awarded nearly $1.2 million in funding through Michigan’s Clean Bus Energy Grant program. This program helps school districts replace older diesel buses with cleaner, more energy-efficient vehicles.

This award builds on the nearly $1.6 million grant we received in November 2024 to purchase three electric buses, add charging infrastructure, and install charging stations. Those buses are currently in production and are expected to arrive this spring, joining our fleet for the 2026–27 school year.

Together, these two grants have provided nearly $2.8 million, allowing us to modernize our transportation fleet while preserving district funds that can be devoted to other initiatives and projects that support students and staff.

We remain grateful for the continued support from the State of Michigan and the many partners who help make these expanded opportunities possible for our Kearsley kids!
