Dowdall families,

Part of the many improvements at Dowdall this summer include the replacement of the existing fire alarm system. Unfortunately, the new system is not currently operational as we await needed devices.

The arrival date of the needed equipment is unknown at this time due to shipping delays.

In the meantime, we have consulted with both the State of Michigan Fire Inspector and our local Genesee Township Fire Department to determine the best course of action.

We have hired a “fire walker” to make regular rounds throughout the building beginning on Monday, August 18th to serve as the primary point of contact with the fire department. The fire walker is a person that will be present anytime the building is occupied. They will continue to patrol the building and regularly communicate with local fire authorities until the inspection of the fire system upgrades are approved. This will not delay the start of school at all on Monday, August 25th. We will also continue to have all the required fire drills to assure students know what to do in the very unlikely event of a fire.

Please let us know if you have questions or concerns. As always, the safety and security of our students and staff remains our top priority.

Sincerely,

Kelly Fisher, principal
